Animaniacs originally premiered in 1993 and became a massive hit for Warner Bros and producer Steven Spielberg. After introducing the world to Yakko, Wakko, and Dot as well as the legendary Pinky and the Brain, Animaniacs went off the air after five seasons of wacky satire and pop culture hilarity. Last year, Hulu resurrected the series for a new iteration that brought back the classic animation style along with the original voice cast. Not much has changed aside from the pop culture references being updated for the 21st century.
As Hulu readies the second season of Animaniacs, I was given the opportunity to sit down with co-executive producer Gabe Swarr and Wakko and Dot actors Jess Harnell and Tress MacNeille. We talked about the goal of bringing back this series faithfully to the original while making sure the humor works for both little kids and adults. We chatted about how the pandemic impacted the production of this series as well as what it was like recording their audio from their homes. Check out this fun interview in the embed above.
