WILDLING, the feature directorial debut of Fritz Böhm (who is sometimes credited as Friedrich Böhm), won't be making its world premiere until the SXSW film festival next month, but IFC Midnight has already acquired the U.S. and Canadian distribution rights and scheduled a release date.
Written by Böhm with Florian Eder, the film centers on
a woman who has spent her entire childhood locked in an attic, being cared for by a man whom she knows as Daddy. He tells her of a child-eating monster called the Wildling, and when she is freed from the attic, her nightmares of the Wildling return.
Bel Powley stars as Anna, the woman who has been living in the attic, and is joined in the cast by Liv Tyler, James Le Gros, Collin Kelly-Sordelet, Mike Faist, and genre icon Brad Dourif.
Dourif is playing the role I was hoping he would be after reading the synopsis – he is Daddy. Interestingly, Le Gros's character appears to be called "The Wolf Man".
IFC Midnight will be giving WILDLING a theatrical and VOD release on Friday, April 13th.
The film is a coproduction of Film i Väst, Filmgate Films, and ARRI Media, in association with Global Road and Night Fox Entertainment. Producers include Charlotte Ubben and Maven Pictures' Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler.
