Cast This: Who should direct Mission Impossible 5?

Since Brad Bird has decided to give another director the chance to direct MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5. I guess it’s our turn to decide whose vision we’d like to see next.

Now I was a little sad inside to hear that Bird would not take on the next film in the MISSION IMPOSSIBLE franchise, however, I completely understand why he moved on. The franchise has never belonged to one certain director. Is Tom Cruise back as Ethan Hunt? Okay, we’re there. Will there be action, a decent storyline, big stunts, and some pretty hot ladies? Sure. Okay, I should just go ahead and buy my ticket. You may not enjoy every MISSION IMPOSSIBLE film, but you do wind up seeing them.

Bird was right in thinking that another director needed to share his thoughts and ideas on the next film. You want to find someone who will put their own spin on it. As I said, so long as the usual player(s) is there, then there’s not much that could go wrong. I know that some people were divided on MI: 2 and MI: 3, but that’s any sequel for you. Previous directors to the series in addition is Bird are, Brian De Palma, John Woo, and J.J. Abrams. Each director had their own vibe, but Ethan Hunt was always himself.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is finding the next director for MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5!

RESULTS FROM PREVIOUS ‘CAST THIS’: WHO SHOULD DIRECT STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

1. Brad Bird 2. Steven Spielberg 3. Duncan Jones

You guys were very thoughtful with your choices. A good majority wrote out why they chose a certain director. Many of you made two lists as well. The results spoke much of everyone’s overall feelings on the subject. Brad Bird came in first. He was your obvious choice and one you could live with. Spielberg was second, nearly first, and was your dream pick. Then finally came newbie, Duncan Jones, who everyone thought would breathe new life into the franchise. Great work, guys! I loved reading all of these!
