Check out Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom animated book short companion to the film.

A new companion piece to Wes Anderson’s MOONRISE KINGDOM has finally found it’s way online, featuring a series of animated shorts based on the books that Suzy (Kara Wayward) reads in the film.  The short is narrated by the same narrator of the film, played by Bob Balaban.

Crack open a short:

Wes Anderson last created a companion piece to one of his films with THE DARJEELING LIMITED with HOTEL CHEVALIER, starring Jason Schwartzman and Natalie Portman, which was a fun little addition and gave us Portman’s bare-naked ass.  MOONRISE KINGDOM’s companion piece certainly isn’t as racy, but no less fun and quirky.

Anderson is love or hate it seems, but I’m strongly in the love category.  His work has a sharp wit, odd humor, and compelling characters, all set in some of the most simple, yet intricately woven scenarios.  Some find him to be too quirky or hipster, but I find him to be a unique voice and clever talent.  We could use more filmmakers with a sense of themselves and their craft.

Here’s the synopsis for the film:

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, MOONRISE KINGDOM tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore — and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle.

MOONRISE KINGDOM is currently in limited theaters and will be expanding throughout the summer.
