Cloverfield sequel being written by showrunner of HBO Max’s Gotham PD series

Director Matt Reeves' 2008 film Cloverfield (watch it HERE) is getting another sequel, and while the previous two entries – 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Cloverfield Paradox – started off as original projects that were added into the Cloverfield anthology series, this new one is being developed as a Cloverfield movie from the start.

Franchise producer J.J. Abrams' company Bad Robot is working with Paramount Pictures to bring this new Cloverfield to the screen, and Joe Barton has been hired to write the script. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it has already been said that, unlike the first Cloverfield, this

will not be in the found footage format.

Matt Reeves is not involved with the project, but Barton was recently named showrunner of HBO Max's Gotham PD series, which serves as a spin-off from Reeves' upcoming film The Batman. Barton's previous writing credits include iBoy and The Ritual.

Abrams will be producing the new Cloverfield with Hannah Minghella.

The title Cloverfield doesn't automatically get me excited about a project, so I'll have to wait to hear what this one's about before I can figure out how interested I am.
