Dario Argento and Iggy Pop look to crowdsourcing to fund The Sandman

Italian filmmaker Dario Argento is gearing up to shoot his latest picture THE SANDMAN (not of the Neil Gaiman variety), except this time he's going about it a little differently. The film tells the story of a young student in the city who struggles to forget his childhood trauma at the hands of the serial killer dubbed "The Sandman": a masked killer who murders his victims with a lethally jagged melon spoon and claims their eyes as trophies. None other than rock legend Iggy Pop is set to portray the killer, and evidently they don't have enough money between the two of them to make this happen as they've launched an Indiegogo campaign to get the flick made.

Here's a few words from the creators:

Dario Argento hasn't exactly been packing in the theaters lately with his last flick, DRACULA 3D, scoring pretty low marks. I suppose that's the whole reason he's hitting up Indiegogo to get THE SANDMAN funded. It's certainly an interesting practice that has paved the way for flicks like VERONICA MARS or Zach Braff's WISH I WAS HERE to become a reality. As long as this keeps paying off, then I imagine we're only going to see more filmmakers employ the use of Indiegogo and Kickstarter to bring their dreams to reality.
