Dashcam: Host director Rob Savage’s new horror film to get summer theatrical release

During the early months of the pandemic, director Rob Savage had a hit with his horror movie Host (watch it HERE), which was shot over Zoom. Savage is now gearing up for what will likely be a more traditionally-shot adaptation of the Stephen King story The Boogeyman, but in the meantime he has made a movie called Dashcam, a found footage movie shot entirely on iPhones. A Blumhouse production, Dashcam has now been acquired for North American and U.K. distribution by Momentum Pictures, the plan being to give the film a theatrical release this summer.

Written by Savage and his Host collaborators Gemma Hurley and Jed Shepherd, Dashcam follows

an abrasive musician’s night, via her livestream, as it takes a dangerous turn when she agrees to help transport a frail elderly woman out of town.

Annie Hardy (The Icarus Line Must Die) stars as that abrasive musician. Amar Chadha-Patel (Disney+’s Willow) and newcomer Angela Enahoro are also in the cast.

Savage produced Dashcam with Jason Blum and Douglas Cox. His co-writers Hurley and Shepherd served as executive producers with Ryan Turek.

Blum had this to say (via Deadline):

Rob’s DASHCAM is a ride and not for the faint of heart – scary, intense, kinetic, like an unpredictable roadtrip with your most maddening friend.”

Savage added:

I am, to use the parlance of our movie, SO MTHERFCKING EXCITED to be working with Momentum Pictures and Blumhouse on the release of DASHCAM. I can’t wait for audiences to see the madness we’ve concocted.”

And Momentum Pictures’ Ian Goggins said:

We are elated to share this exciting new project with North American and U.K audiences. Rob is an incredible filmmaker, and we are thrilled to be partnering with him and the entire Blumhouse team on this film which has already received positive reactions and buzz from festival audiences.”

I enjoyed Host more than I expected to, so I’ll be giving Dashcam a chance as well. There’s no trailer yet, but there is this first look image:
