Dean Cain and Jason Mewes talk Superman stress in Madness in the Method clip

A lot of people say that you should never meet your heroes. After all, what if they turn out to be complete tools, or even worse, destroy your immaculate view of a beloved character they've played? As far as risk-reward situations go, its often best to keep your expectations in check when shaking hands with those who've amazed and inspired you throughout the years. I say this as a person who's met countless celebrities, musicians, and artists across all forms of media. Many of my meetings have been nothing short of a delight. However, every now and again, I've had my opinion of someone tarnished on account of them being the exact opposite of who I'd imagined they'd be. To reiterate, expectations can be a real bitch, so be sure to check yourself before you wreck yourself, if you know what I mean.

Today we have an exclusive clip from MADNESS IS THE METHOD, a comedic comedy directed by View Askewniverse alum Jason Mewes, which is based on a script penned by Chris Anastasi and Dominic Burns.

In the clip, we find Mewes engaging in a secretive exchange with Superman actor Dean Cain, who played the Man of Steel opposite Teri Hatcher's Lois Lane for ABC's LOIS & CLARK: THE NEW SUPERMAN ADVENTURES. After Cain gains Mewes' attention while dining at an outdoor restaurant, he begins ranting about the woes of having played Superman, and how some fans expect him to be the superhero he's portrayed on screen. Obviously, being faster than a speeding bullet and jumping tall buildings in a single bound is outside of Cain's mortal skillset. However, that doesn't stop some fanatics from thinking he's the real deal. While some would view acting as Superman to be a gift, Cain hilariously frames the role as a burden when coming face-to-face with fans who don't know the difference between fantasy and reality.

Here's the official logline for MADNESS IN THE METHOD:

Jason Mewes, attempting method acting in order to gain more respect for himself in Hollywood, slowly descends into madness.

Helmed by Mewes, the film also features a who's who of Hollywood talent, such as Kevin Smith, Gina Carano, Jamie Camil, Vinnie Jones, Danny Trejo, Teri Hatcher, David Dastmalchian, as well as the late and great Stan Lee.

MADNESS IN THE METHOD is set for an August 2 release.
