Dracula Untold’s final scene and its ties into the movie monster universe

It was recently announced that DRACULA UNTOLD would be joining Universal’s realm of classic movie monsters that Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are developing. While the next film in that shared universe, THE MUMMY, won’t be hitting theaters until April 22, 2016, a scene was tacked onto the end of DRACULA UNTOLD to begin to tie everything together. For those of you who plan on avoiding spoilers, this won’t really tell you much you probably couldn’t surmise for yourself, but look away!

At the end of DRACULA UNTOLD, we skip ahead centuries after the events that have unfolded as Luke Evans‘ Dracula creeps on a girl who’s reminiscent of his long, lost love. As this goes on, Charles Dance‘s “Master Vampire” watches and says, “Let the games begin.” Obviously this guy is aware of the bigger picture and may act as the Nick Fury of this universe, eventually assembling a team of these monsters to do some damage to a greater threat. As for director Gary Shore, he has an idea of who he’d like to see team up with Dracula.

Gary Shore discussing which classic monster he’d like to see next with Luke Evans:

The Invisible Man. It’s all just going to be Luke onscreen [laughing]. If you break down the monster universe or any kind of superhero analogy to that, I think when superheroes really work, it’s where an audience can relate to it; where you have that sense of wish fulfillment or involvement. I think of all those characters, I don’t particularly want to be a wolf. I don’t particularly want to be a creature from a black lagoon or a mummy. However, I really would love to be invisible. I’d say absolutely that would be my choice.

It may surprise you to know that DRACULA UNTOLD has already grossed over $80 million worldwide. While certainly not a hit, it’s not going to be the bomb most will initially pass it off as. Either way, with Universal’s first fully-planned film of this universe coming along in a couple of years, they have some time to rethink their strategy as for when Dracula will be making his next appearance. A cameo after the end credits of THE MUMMY? That’s where I’m placing my bets!

DRACULA UNTOLD is now in theaters.
