UPDATE- The Empire Strikes Back tops the weekend box office

UPDATE- CB: And it's official – THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK was the number one movie at the box office this weekend, earning $644K – which is actually a lot better than was forecasted. OK, so maybe those aren't blockbuster numbers, but I must admit, it's cool to see all of these classic movies return to the top of the box office charts, with JURASSIC PARK & GHOSTBUSTERS both having recently gotten their place in the sun thanks to revival screenings at Drive-Ins or the movie theaters that have re-opened.

In these quarantine times, our beloved film-going expreriences have taken a bit of a hit and even though it can be a drag, there are some cool little nuggets to be found. Case in point, the limited amount of films being released theatrically has led to a resurrgence of classics taking over that box office coin! With that said, I'm here to announce that STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK is poised to finish first at the box office this weekend with an estimated haul between $400 and $500 thousand in 483 locations.

Like many fans of the galaxy far, far away, EMPIRE is my favorite of the franchise and I love that fact that it's getting some love during these um… interesting times. Note – the film actually topped the box office way back in 1997 when it was re-released as part of the "Special Editions". Now, I've gotta see if any of the drive-ins within a reasonable distance of my home are playing it! What other classic films from the past would you like to see make a return to the big screen? Let us know down there in the comments!
