Universal Pictures, Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions, Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and Why Not Productions are all teaming up on VIGILANDIA, a low-budget sci-fi thriller. (Seems like a lot of production houses for a “low-budget” flick, no?) James DeMonaco, writer of such films as ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 and THE NEGOTIATOR, is directing.
The plot details are nil right now, although it has been revealed that Ethan Hawke is starring (reteaming him and DeMonaco after 2009’s LITTLE NEW YORK). Production is beginning on February 13th.
This is the first movie produced under the deal that Blumhouse Productions and Universal made last year. Blum has emerged as a serious force to be reckoned with in Hollywood horror. Among his producing credits: All of the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY movies, as well as INSIDIOUS, Oren Peli’s sci-fi ABC series “The River”, and Scott Derrickson’s SINISTER (which Ethan Hawke also stars in.) Barry Levinson’s THE BAY and Rob Zombie’s LORDS OF SALEM are also his.
