Alex Garland, the 28 DAYS LATER screenwriter who made his directorial debut with last year's EX MACHINA, has been assembling the female ensemble required for his second directorial effort ANNIHILATION, and has gotten four great actresses to join the project – Natalie Portman (pictured below), Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson, and Gina Rodriguez.
Based on a novel by Jeff VanderMeer, the story focuses on
four women who take on a dangerous mission where the laws of nature don't apply.
The group consists of an anthropologist; a surveyor; a psychologist who serves as the group’s de facto leader; and a biologist, who serves as the narrator.
These four women aren't the only characters in the film, however. At least one man is needed for the cast, and Tracking Board is spreading the word that EX MACHINA star Oscar Isaac has officially signed on to reunite with Garland on ANNIHILATION.
This is very cool news in my book, as I'm a big fan of Isaac… which is a good thing to be these days, as the guy seems to be everywhere.
