Exclusive clip from animated/live-action documentary Last Hijack

Documentaries can be just as creative as a feature, especially when it's told in an innovative way, which is the case with LAST HIJACK, a really thought-provoking and compelling doc the presents itself in a unique way. Chronicling the life and times of a real-life Somali pirate in his homeland, while interpreting his stories and worldview with animation, LAST HIJACK takes a controversial subject and presents it in a way that draws the viewer in with more than just talking heads and archival footage. Today, we have an exclusive clip from the film that illustrates that exact thing, as the main character recalls one of the more harrowing moments of his life, while growing up in the piracy capital of the world, Somalia.

Take a look:

Here's the synopsis:

A narrative and documentary journey into the world of one Somali Pirate exploring how and why he came to live such a brutal and dangerous existence. Animated re-enactments explore Mohamed's memories, dreams and fears from his point of view.

While the topic of piracy can be every bit as infuriating as terrorism (or any criminal trade for that matter), especially this day and age, I'm happy to see filmmakers still paying attention to the subjects that are so prevalent in our world. Filmmakers Tommy Pallotta (who produced Richard Linklater's excellent WAKING LIFE and A SCANNER DARKLY) and Femke Wolting have created a gripping film that can help shape perspective and initiate your own journey of understanding, which is one of the best things you can get from a documentary; the desire to find the truth for yourself.

LAST HIJACK will hit iTunes on October 7, 2014, then VOD on October 14, 2014. Get more info about the film at the official interactive site here.
