According to Deadline’s Mike Fleming, the film is being described “as a ‘Hard R’ comedy about a man and his teddy bear.” Whatever that could possibly imply I will leave up to your own imaginations.
The comedy, written by MacFarlane cronies Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, will reportedly mix live action and CG. MacFarlane himself will also co-star and provide the voice of the CG-generated title character.
TED was apparently turned down over at Fox due to its R-ratedness, despite MacFarlane and the studio’s good relationship. Their lose though is Universal’s gain, as the project’s new home has gone so far as to give MacFarlane an ownership stake in a film they’ve now made a long-term licensing deal on. Will MacFarlane’s jump from the small screen to the big screen pay dividends for Universal?
