First official look at Tom Hanks in Clint Eastwood’s Sully unveiled

These image first looks are always a strange bunch to write about, as, when you really get down to it, it's usually a recognizable actor looking pretty much like who we know they are, with maybe a tweak or two to define them as a particular character. Tom Hanks starring in Clint Eastwood's SULLY as the heroic pilot Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger is no different.

As seen above, that's certainly Tom Hanks all right… only with whiter hair and the mustache that he only seems to sport in his private life. About what you expected, no? And next to him is Aaron Eckhart, as co-pilot Jeff Skiles, looking exactly as I remembered Aaron Eckhart

Well, that takes care of that.

On the flip side though, the first teaser one sheet for the film is a bit odd. It would appear we're seeing Hanks' title character throw a window of the plane he managed to miraculous land without any casualties in the "Miracle on the Hudson." But why is there water up on the window as Sully seems to be walking calmly in our direction? I'm pretty sure that's not how those events went down. But I guess Warner Bros. wants three elements perfectly clear for anyone who might catch a glimpse of this poster – Tom Hanks, airplane and water. If so, success on all three fronts.

SULLY opens in theaters on September 9. (Wow! Really…? That soon?)
