Friday the 13th (2017) Revisited – Horror Game Review

We have a rare event on our hands today: although I’m not a gamer, I have actually played the game being covered in the new episode of our Playing with Fear video series! I have played it quite a bit, too. The game is the Friday the 13th game that came to us from Gun Media in 2017… and since Friday the 13th is my favorite horror franchise, this also happens to be one of my favorite games of all time.

I felt Gun captured the feeling of the Friday the 13th movies perfectly, and they did a great job recreating locations from the films. That’s why I have spent several hundred hours wandering around those maps, fleeing from and fighting back against Jason. (I’m a counselor main.) Some have tried to spoil the fun with modified lobbies and the lawsuit between original Friday the 13th director/producer Sean S. Cunningham and screenwriter Victor Miller held the game back from being all it could be, but I still think it’s great. To find out if Playing with Fear writer Andrew Hatfield agrees with me, check out the video embedded above.

Episodes in the Playing with Fear series take

a look at the most impactful, successful, and scariest video games throughout the history of the medium and deciding if they’re still worth playing today.

Playing with Fear is Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Tyler Nichols, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
