Godzilla reboot director is aiming for realism

In the annals of film history, few movie monsters are as beloved as GODZILLA. There’s something undeniably compelling about the Big “G” that makes him THE icon among kaiju creatures. Gareth Edwards seems to agree as he dished about his vision for the upcoming reboot of the Toho franchise.

First, Edwards made a big deal about the amount of work he’s putting into the film and the ensuing fan reaction to the Comic Con trailer:

“I’ve never worked this hard, this long and been this emotionally involved in something that’s lasted only a few seconds since the time I lost my virginity! But the reaction has been amazing and I can’t wait for the fans to see our final product.”

That is the first and last time Godzilla and the phrase “I lost my virginity” will ever be referenced in the same sentence, by the way. Edwards then went into further detail about his decision to do a grittier take on the character:

“I’ve always been interested in Godzilla and the ideas around him. I really wanted to see another Godzilla film and jumped at the opportunity. My main idea was to imagine ‘If this really happened, what would it be like?’ I want to take a grounded, realistic approach to a Godzilla film.”

Screenwriter Drew Pearce is rewriting the current script to “age up” the human characters for prospective actors. Edwards’ MONSTERS displayed some really great character work, so I should say that’s the least of our worries. What I am concerned about is no one has mentioned Jet Jaguar’s involvement yet. WTF? Seriously, though, talk back below to tell us how you feel about the remake.
