Greg Nicotero asked George A. Romero to direct The Walking Dead

I make it no secret here at AITH that I don't watch THE WALKING DEAD. Like many of the rest of you guys out there, I used to, but I gave up the ghost after the terrible second season, and the show giving Frank Darabont the boot. That said, I may have stuck around for further adventures of Rick crying and the others constantly complaining had someone like Mr. George A. Romero directed an episode here and there.

And wouldn't you know it, that's just what ALMOST happened according to special effects guru and THE WALKING DEAD executive producer Greg Nicotero. Yep, after season one, Nictoero brought up the idea to Darabont and they approached Romero for some more walking dead people action.

But Romero turned them down. Wa, wa.

Nicotero:

You know, we loved the idea of George coming onboard. Frank Darabont and I talked about it after the end of season 1. And I had a conversation with George and I said, ‘Hey, man, would you ever want to come and direct?’ This was after we’d only aired six episodes. So, the show hadn’t really even caught on. And George said, ‘No, listen, you guys have your world, and I have my world, and it’s cool. I think he really was still intending on developing some other zombie stuff. So, he was like, ‘Yeah, that’s okay.'

So in the end, Romero turned down the offer to helm some episodes of the once giant now depleting series. And like I said above, had the powers that be managed to snag Romero (or Carpenter, or Craven) to helm an episode here and there, I'm thinking I would have stuck it out. At least until recently when everyone else jumped ship. Would you have stuck around for more THE WALKING DEAD had George A. Romero directed a few episodes? Make sure to hit us up and let us know below! The Walking Dead season 9 resumes on February 10th

RIP ROMERO
