Is Hayley Atwell campaigning to play Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot?

Hayley Atwell was mostly a TV actress before bursting onto the scene with 2011’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, where she played Peggy Carter, the bad ass British agent who captured Steve Rogers’ heart. After that, however, she detoured back to her TV roots and we haven’t seen much (ahem, enough) of her on the big screen. The actress is set to reprise her role as Agent Carter in the currently filming CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER and in the meantime has taken to Twitter to lobby for another iconic role: Lara Croft.

Recently, it was announced that Crystal Dynamics and GK Films were prepping a reboot of the movie franchise (which originally starred Angelina Jolie) and were looking for a “younger” actress for the part, as demonstrated in the recently released video game. Atwell recently turned 31, which is a stark contrast to Jolie, who was 25 when she starred in LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER in 2001. However, that certainly doesn’t make her an old maid. Quite the contrary.

Atwell has retweeted a number of messages that lobby for her to fill Lara Croft’s boots, showing a definite interest in playing the buxom badass Brit explorer (aka the female Indiana Jones…only with more guns). She may not fit the exact profile of the model they’re using for the video game, but they could easily make room for Hayley’s considerable, uh, assets.

What do you guys think? Atwell for Croft?
