Alien: Covenant is shooting for the stars with a Hard R

After winning his Golden Globe for THE MARTIAN (in the Best Musical/Comedy category because the HFPA is drunk), director Ridley Scott couldn't help but let some details slip about his upcoming film ALIEN: COVENANT. We already know that the film will jump forward a decade in time and that it's "not so much of a spacesuit movie," but this new revelation is sure to prick u horror fans' ears.

When a reporter remarked that audiences are still looking for a horror film like ALIEN, he replied, "“That’s why I’m doing it. I’m going to do pretty hard R. Pretty tough.” It's one short comment, but one giant revelation for film fans everywhere. According to Scott, the film will feature something “much worse” than the infamous chestburster scene. He gave no clue what that might entail, but that's sure to keep your wheels spinning for a while before we get another update.

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

ALIEN: COVENANT, starring Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, and Katherine Waterston, jets into theaters on October 6th, 2017. Check out the full backstage interview below!
