“American Horror Story: Asylum”: What’s in store for the rest of the season?

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

SPOILERS for Episode 1 included!

Folks who tuned into “American Horror Story: Asylum” last night got a little bit of everything: alien abductions, mysterious forest creatures, a sadistic surgeon, a decidedly unholy nun, a serial killer called Bloody Face, and an armless Adam Levine. A bizarre whirlwind of WTF, essentially. So where the hell are they going with all this?

The below video might provide a clue or two. A minute-long trailer for the rest of the season (but moot likely just the next handful of episodes), you’ll see glimpses of what’s in store. At the very least, it looks as though they are packing as much insanity as they possibly can into this asylum. Have to love this cast, too. (James Cromwell’s sardonic, freaky Dr. Arden is already my favorite character.)

The second episode, the Halloween-themed “Tricks and Treats,” has the following synopsis: An Exorcist is summoned to Briarcliff to help save a troubled farm boy. Sister Jude’s darkest secret is revealed.

In addition, Ryan Murphy formally announced via his Twitter page that another Season 1 castmember will return for the second go-round: Dylan McDermott, who of course played the thoroughly flawed dad of the thoroughly f*cked Harmon family. Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Eric Stonestreet and Francis Conroy all return as well.

According to Variety, AHS:A got off to a solid start, as 3.8 million viewers tuned in Wednesday night for the premiere, a 21% increase in total viewers compared to last year’s start.

“American Horror Story: Asylum” airs Wednesday nights on FX.
