As Akira hits the skids, Warner Bros. moves ahead with supernatural Manga Bleach

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

For all you bummed about the impasse on a live-action AKIRA, BLEACH is here to break your fall…

It’s true, yo. According to Variety, Warner Bros. is moving away from the train-wreck that is AKIRA, and is instead focusing on another Manga to adapt into a live-action film. In specific, Tite Kubo’s BLEACH!

For those as new to the title as I, “Bleach” follows the adventures of Ichigo, a teenager who can see ghosts. When his family is attacked by a Hollow — a malevolent lost soul — Ichigo inadvertently absorbs the power to hunt Hollows. He then dedicates his life to protecting the innocent and helping tortured souls find peace.

Word is Peter Segal (GET SMART) will produce, along with many others including “Heroes” star Masi Oka, who actually brought the property to Segal. WRATH OF THE TITANS scribe Dan Mazeau is adapting the screenplay.

Alright, so what do we make of this one? Seems like Warner is keeping production in house, working with cats who’ve done good business for them in the past. Not necessarily sure that’ll translate to a quality film, but again, I’m not familiar with the material in the first place, so. Have you read BLEACH? How do you think it’ll play as a live-action movie?
