Billy Crudup is in talks to join Alien: Covenant

In the original ALIEN, the commercial starship Nostromo had a crew of seven people. It remains to be seen just how many people will be on board the colony ship Covenant in Ridley Scott’s ALIEN prequel / PROMETHEUS sequel ALIEN: COVENANT, but right now it looks like they have enough cast members to exceed the Nostromo crew.

Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, and Demian Bichir had already been announced as new additions to the ALIEN franchise, and yesterday the casting floodgates opened to let us know that Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, and Callie Hernandez have also signed on. There’s seven, and we may have an eighth:

Billy Crudup, who can currently be seen in the multi-Oscar nominee SPOTLIGHT, is in “advanced negotations” to take on a key role in ALIEN: COVENANT. Crudup may be best known for his roles in ALMOST FAMOUS, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III, and WATCHMEN.

Scripted by Michael Green, Jack Paglen, and John Logan, ALIEN: COVENANT picks up 10 years after the events of PROMETHEUS to tell the following story:

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Michael Fassbender reprises the role of David.

The film is set to hit theatres on October 6, 2017.
