Blood Honey to get a Canadian theatrical release in September

The filmmakers behind the "Stanley Kubrick inspired mindbender" BLOOD HONEY obviously had some trouble figuring out what the movie should be called. It was originally titled THE BEQUEST, and when we reported on it last year it was going by THE HIVE. Now it looks like the filmmakers are going to be sticking with BLOOD HONEY, which is definitely my favorite of the possibilities.

Northern Banner Releasing will be giving BLOOD HONEY a theatrical release in Canada next month, starting with a one week engagement at the Cineplex Yonge-Dundas in Toronto that begins September 1st. The movie will then be released in Vancouver and Calgary on September 8th.

Directed by Jeff Kopas from a screenplay he wrote with Doug Taylor, BLOOD HONEY follows

Jenibel Heath on her return to her family's secluded island lodge to help her siblings care for their dying father, ten years after the mysterious suicide of her mother. Set to inherit the bulk of the family's estate, Jenibel fears that her siblings do not have her best intentions at heart and she struggles to keep her sanity after she becomes trapped on the island.

Shenae Grimes-Beech, Gil Bellows, Don McKellar, Rosemary Dunsmore, Natalie Brown, and Ken Mitchell star.

Kopas had this to say about his film:

The film is influenced by classic old school thrillers such as Rosemary's Baby, Vertigo, The Shining, and Jacob's Ladder. It is a completely unpredictable and logic-based story we think film fans will really enjoy."

That's a nice list of influences. If you're going to be in Toronto, Vancouver, or Calgary next month, it sounds like BLOOD HONEY is a movie that will be worth checking out. Even if it doesn't have anything else going for it, at least its title is fun to say.
