Bryan Bertino officially directing found footage thriller for Universal

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Though Bryan Bertino has been attached to many different projects since his debut THE STRANGERS became an unexpected hit in 2008, the young director has not gotten a movie off the ground. Picky, or the victim of multiple trips to development hell?

Whatever the case, it seems as though Bertino is finally ready for his encore, a found footage thriller (I can already hear the groans) tentatively titled MOCKINGBIRD which Bertino will direct for Universal Pictures. (This is the same project that was announced late last year.)

Shock Till You Drop has the early scoop on the plot: MOCKINGBIRD concerns a couple who receive a video camera with a document of strict instructions. If they don’t follow the rules, they’re told someone will die. The film will follow their hellish ordeal as they do what they are told.

The film will be produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse, Marc Platt and Adam Siegel for Marc Platt Productions, and Adrienne Biddle and Bryan Bertino for Unbroken. Scott Bernstein is overseeing for Universal. No start date has been announced yet.
