Castle Rock co-showrunner says Stephen King has been an amazing collaborator

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Earlier this month we shared with you guys the first bits of actual footage from CASTLE ROCK the upcoming Hulu series from Stephen King and JJ Abrams and it was all we could have hoped for.

But as much as CASTLE ROCK is (obviously) a Stephen King centric story, just how much has the King of horror been involved in the making of the show?

Like many (all) aspects of the series thus far, this issue has been a mystery. However today we have some confirmation of King's role via co-showrunner Dustin Thomason, who recently spoke to Flickering Myth about the upcoming series.

CASTLE ROCK co-showrunner Dustin Thomason on Stephen King:

He’s been a really amazing collaborator. First, when we came to the show, we came to J.J. [Abrams] and then to Stephen [King], altogether, to say ‘We want to play in your universe. We were incredibly surprised, and now knowing a little more about who Stephen King is perhaps less surprised, that he was so willing to let us expand upon what he had done. To use these characters. Every time we’ve asked him ‘Can we do this thing to one of your iconic characters?’ he always says ‘Yes,’ and I think it’s because he wants these characters to find new life as well. It’s been really great to be able to talk to him about these characters that we all know and love and feel like he really has our back in terms of how we use them in hopefully original ways.
