Christian Ditter to direct sci-fi thriller Stillwater for New Line

New Line Cinema has set in motion a very mysterious sci-fi thriller project called STILLWATER, revealing nothing about the story other than the fact that it was "an internal idea developed in-house at New Line."

Christian Ditter, who previously directed the rom-com HOW TO BE SINGLE for New Line, is attached to direct the film, working from a screenplay written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, who has several Disney credits to his name, including last year's billion dollar hit BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.

STILLWATER is being produced by Beau Flynn through his company FlynnPictureCo. Flynn has been behind such films as SAN ANDREAS and the upcoming video game adaptation RAMPAGE.

The listed credits combined lead me to suspect that STILLWATER is going to be one of the lighter sci-fi thrillers out there, but Flynn does have some dark films on his filmography – including REQUIEM FOR A DREAM, THE NUMBER 23, and THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE (pictured above). So maybe they will go all-out with the thrills on this one.

We'll let you know more about STILLWATER whenever New Line pulls back the curtain a bit.
