Venom Ruben FleischerAfter making an underwhelming attempt to bring a villainous version of the Marvel Comics character Venom to the screen in 2007's SPIDER-MAN 3, Sony is trying again, this time giving a more heroic Venom its own movie, one appropriately titled VENOM. But just because Venom will be on the side of good in this film doesn't mean the alien symbiote won't mess up anyone that confronts it, even if the people confronting it happen to be members of a SWAT team.

Embedded below, the first action-heavy clip to be released for VENOM shows us Tom Hardy's character, journalist Eddie Brock, in danger of being apprehended by a SWAT team. Desperate times call for desperate measures, so Brock has the symbiote he has unwillingly bonded with take control of the situation.

Directed by ZOMBIELAND's Ruben Fleischer, VENOM is inspired by the comic book storylines Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes. The film has this simple synopsis:

One of Marvel's most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.

Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner, and Kelly Marcel wrote the screenplay.

Hardy is joined in the cast by Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott, Woody Harrelson, Sope Aluko, and Ron Cephas Jones.

VENOM is scheduled to be released in just over a week, on October 5th.
