Cute newcomer Jemima West the latest to join that Mortal Instruments adaptation

How are you guys feeling about Harold Zwart’s MORTAL INSTRUMENTS adaptation? You know, that young-adult novel series from Cassandra Clare? Ever since that TWILIGHT shite it’s been extremely hard to get excited for an adaptation of a young-adult novel. Simply because they’re all tailored to the thirteen year old girls out there. Now I suppose that’s the exact audience an adaptation of a ‘young-adult’ novel would be looking for… but come on! Some of this stuff really shouldn’t be toned down. And MORTAL INSTRUMENTS falls into that category.

Now only time will tell how toned down the source material is for the feature adaptation but what we know today is that hottie Jemima West has just signed on to star in the film! There’s no telling who the young actress will be playing but does it really matter? No, I didn’t think so.

In the series’ first book “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones”, set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray, discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.

Along with West the film also stars Lily Collins and Jaime Campbell Bower. It’s already been tapped with a August 23, 2013 release date and an August 15th start date in Toronto so I’m sure more updates from this one will be rolling our way soon.
