David Fincher is continuing to work on the World War Z sequel

World War Z Brad Pitt

It's been more than a year since we first heard that David Fincher was "in talks" to direct a sequel to the 2013 zombie blockbuster WORLD WAR Z, and all this time later they have somehow managed to keep Fincher "creatively interested" in helming the follow-up. It's an unexpected choice for the meticulous director, but I love that Fincher is involved with this project and really want to see it come to fruition.

There still doesn't seem to be any sort of production schedule in place, and judging by a quote given by Fincher during a recent interview with Little White Lies we probably shouldn't expect cameras to start rolling on WORLD WAR Z 2 any time soon:

World War Z? We’re trying. A lot of stones have been laid. We’re just deconstructing it right now against the mythology that exists to see where we can go."

"Stones have been laid" gives the hope that there are some elements solidly in place, but the rest of what Fincher had to say makes it sound like a lot about this sequel is still up in the air… That's fine, I'm in no rush. Just as long as I do get to see a Fincher-directed zombie epic someday.

Whenever WORLD WAR Z 2 happens, Fincher's frequent collaborator Brad Pitt is expected to reprise the role of the first film's hero Gerry Lane.
