Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will be directed by Matt Reeves

His name popped up as a possibility last week, but today the news is official: CLOVERFIELD and LET ME IN helmer Matt Reeves will direct 20th Century Fox's DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. Reeves replaces Rupert Wyatt, who directed RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and was scheduled to return to the director's chair for the sequel until he departed the project because he was allegedly unhappy with the short window of time given to him for production.

Reeves has had several projects on his plate since LET ME IN impressed critics and fanboys alike, Warner Bros.' THE TWILIGHT ZONE and THIS DARK ENDEAVOR among them. But DAWN will definitely be his next flick, as Fox has already set a May 23, 2014 release date.

Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver are once again penning the screenplay, while Andy Serkis will return to portray "Caesar." No further details are available yet.
