Details on mobile game Alien: Blackout unveiled

Alien: Blackout

20th Century Fox has been saying that the ALIEN franchise will be expanding in 2019, and the teases they have released through social media have indicated that Ellen Ripley's daughter Amanda, a character who first fought xenomorphs in the 2014 video game ALIEN: ISOLATION, would be at the center of this expansion. Recent posts have said we'll be able to "read, play, watch" ALIEN stories in the new year... and now we know what projects cover two of those.

It had previously been announced that Dark Horse Comics will be publishing a series titled ALIEN: RESISTANCE, starring Amanda Ripley. That's "read" covered. Now comes confirmation that FoxNext Games, D3 Go!, and Rival Games are developing a mobile game called ALIEN: BLACKOUT, which will also star Amanda.

The game, which will be available for download through the App Store, Google Play, and Amazon Appstore, will drop the player into the following scenario:

The terror of Alien is brought to life in ‘Alien: Blackout.’ Try to stay alive while trapped aboard a crippled Weyland-Yutani space station carrying a deadly Xenomorph as it tirelessly hunts you and the crew. Outsmart the perfect hunter by making perilous choices. Players must rely on the damaged controls of the space station or risk sacrificing crew members to avoid deadly contact, permanently altering the outcome of the game.

Survive seven fear-inducing levels by remotely guiding Amanda Ripley’s crew through increasingly challenging tasks using only the station’s emergency systems. The uncertainty and unpredictability of both the alien and her crew can impose total defeat for Amanda and the entire station.

Now we just need to figure out the "watch" part of Fox's plans. Are they simply talking about fans being able to watch the ALIEN films already released on home video, or is there something else in the works? Last year the studio did hire six filmmakers to create short films set in the ALIEN universe, but we haven't heard anything more about that project.
