Diederik Van Rooijen to direct Cadaver for Screen Gems

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Dutch filmmaker Diederik Van Rooijen is attached to direct a remake of Alfred Hitchcock's THE BIRDS for Platinum Dunes, but that project is moving along quite slowly. The producers at Platinum Dunes have been kicking around the idea since at least 2007, when they included a clip from THE BIRDS in their remake of THE HITCHER as a sort of teaser for what was supposed to be next for them. Since those killer birds are taking so long to take flight, Van Rooijen needs to occupy his time in other ways, and one of the ways he's going to spend his time is by making a horror film called CADAVER for Screen Gems.

Written by BOOGEYMAN 2 scribe Brian Sieve, CADAVER

centers on a female cop just out of rehab who takes a graveyard shift in a city hospital morgue, where a series of bizarre and violent events are caused by a corpse harboring an evil entity.

I can imagine few locations creepier or more unpleasant than a hospital morgue, so CADAVER is definitely off to a good start when it comes to picking a setting.

Broken Road Productions' Sean Robins and Todd Garner will be producing the film, with Screen Gems' Clint Culpepper and Scott Strauss overseeing the project.

Naomi Watts was going to star in THE BIRDS at one point
