Dimension will not be releasing Polaroid this year

Dimension Films puts movies into production, but you can never be sure how long it's going to take for those movies to be released. The most recent example of this is AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING, which was originally supposed to be receive a theatrical release on January 2, 2015, and just last month finally escaped the Dimension vault to play on 10 theatre screens and be available for viewing through Google Play for free.

The latest Dimension horror project to hit a snag is POLAROID, which had originally been scheduled for an August 25, 2017 release. Marketing had even begun - we saw the trailer back in June. But then POLAROID was pushed back until December 1st... then moved forward to November 22nd... Although one sheets hang in theatre lobbies, POLAROID has now been pushed back again - it's now set to come out sometime in 2018.

Of course, there is a difference between this delay and the usual Dimension release shuffling. Dimension is owned by The Weinstein Company, and you may have heard of a scandal surrounding one of its founders. Dimension is now restructuring and is looking to rebrand itself in the new year.

Norwegian director Lars Klevberg made his feature directorial debut with POLAROID, which is based on a short film he made in 2015. Blair Butler wrote the screenplay for the feature expansion, which has the following synopsis:

High school loner Bird Fitcher has no idea what dark secrets are tied to the Polaroid vintage camera she stumbles upon, but it doesn’t take long to discover that those who have their picture taken meet a tragic end.

Kathryn Prescott, Mitch Pileggi, Grace Zabriskie, Tyler Young, Keenan Tracey, Samantha Logan, Priscilla Quintana, Madelaine Petsch, and Javier Botet star.

When POLAROID was first announced, it had all the elements in place to replicate the success of David F. Sandberg and LIGHTS OUT, another situation where a Nordic short-maker was given the chance to make a feature for a studio. It's a shame that it's getting bogged down in Dimension's troubles.
