LEGEND OF THE BOG – June 23rd

Vinne Jones is one badass motorscooter. You know he’s such a badass that, even if he’s in a horror movie featuring impaled bodies by the hands of a giant swamp killer, he’s still sporting an automatic hand cannon. Jones will not be undersold, and holds his stance as an action star… even when he’s in a horror flick like this. F*ckin’ A. In other news, regardless of Jones’ presence, this cover sucks ass. What is LEGEND OF THE BOG about? Dunno. Can’t tell. Must be about Vinne Jones shooting up a swamp.

The Goods:

  • 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen

FRIDAY THE 13th: THE FINAL CHAPTER (DELUXE EDITION) – June 16th

Reasons why I love THE FINAL CHAPTER: Corey Feldman. Crispen Glover’s goofy dance. The hot twin sisters. The chick who finally puts out only to die screaming. Plenty of boobs. They “kill” Jason. Feldman’s horror mask collection. The dude who gets high and watches porn from the 1920s. While it’s not my favorite of the series, part IV f*ckin’ rocks and so does this brand new DELUXE EDITION. Why? Cause they actually kept the original poster artwork for this one… and is it me, or does this cover look 3-D? Good shit…

  • Commentary by director Joe Zito, screenwriter Barney Cohen and editor Joel Goodman

FRIDAY THE 13th: THE NEW BEGINNING (DELUXE EDITION) – June 16th

Reasons why I f*cking hate THE NEW BEGINNING: it’s not Jason. Everyone is annoying. The kills are weak and edited. It’s boring and ill-paced. F*ck Part V! The only thing it has going for it is the crazy dude in the beginning who kills the fat kid (cause it’s so random), and those huge pair of natural titties by one of the halfway house sluts. Jesus, those were more than a handful! I’m surprised they made more entries after this one, because yes… it sucked that bad. Least to say, I won’t be picking up the DELUXE EDITION anytime soon…

    The Goods:

  • Widescreen
  • English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
  • Commentary by director/co-screenwriter Danny Steinmann with cast and crew
  • Lost Tales from Camp Blood – Part 5

FRIDAY THE 13th: JASON LIVES (DELUXE EDITION) – June 16th

Reasons why JASON LIVES rocks my socks off: Jason’s James Bond opening sequence. The level of campiness and humor, done for the first time in the series on purpose. The Alice Cooper song. The paintball warriors. Jason’s resurrection. The Sheriff who gets snapped in half. I might say that I love PART VI. While it’s not flawless, it presents the fun of the series while supplying a higher production value than the others, and introduces us to the Zombie Jason that we know and love today. The new edition offers deleted scenes, and that alone has me sold. Lame cover, but hey–it’s better than nothing, right?

    The Goods:

  • Widescreen
  • English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
  • Commentary with director Tom McLoughlin and Cast & Crew
  • Lost Tales From Camp Blood – Part 6
  • Crystal Lake Massacre Revisited – Part 3

    DVD Covers:

    Honorable Mentions:

    SILENT VENOM
–June 2nd – Because it stars Luke Perry battling against a giant snake in the water on board a submarine. Seriously. That’s what it’s about.

    GOZU
    – June 2nd – Because this cover is freakin’ me out. So THAT’S where Jigsaw got the idea…

    NEAR DARK
    – July 9th – Because the new cover is selling this movie like another TWILIGHT-esque vampire flick and not the hardcore vampire western it really is.
