Eli Roth now in talks to direct vampire tale Harker, Russell Crowe set to play Dracula!

Roth and Crowe? Didn’t see that one coming, did ya?!?

Deadline is reporting that after years of acting and producing, Eli Roth will likely remain in the director’s chair after THE GREEN INFERNO to helm the vampire tale HARKER for Warner Bros. Not only that, word is Russell Crowe is still attached to the film, but NOT for the titular lead (as was reported in February), but to play Count Dracula himself! Roth, if he accepts, will simply be replacing ORPHAN director Jaume Collet-Serra.

Of course, Crowe recently wrapped THE MAN WITH THE IRON FIST, which Roth produced for his pal RZA. So there’s your connection. More surprising is the willingness of Crowe to mine some pretty dark territory in back to back efforts. But do you see him as a convincing Dracula? I kind of can.

Written by Lee Shipman & Brian McGreevy, who in no coincidence produced Roth’s Netflix original series “Hemlock Grove” – HARKER is a Scotland Yard detective investigating Count Dracula’s string of grisly murders in England.

Sounds fun, even if Crowe may only commit to the first entry in a potential franchise, which is how the property is set up. Now the search for Jonathan Harker is on, no doubt a plum role for any lucky leading man.

Who should the studio cast?
