Somnus Chris Reading

Epic Pictures Group, the production company/distribution studio behind the releases of such films as TURBO KID, TALES OF HALLOWEEN, and NINA FOREVER, has picked up the worldwide sales and distribution rights to director Chris Reading’s sci-fi thriller SOMNUS. A release date has not yet been announced, but Epic plans to have SOMNUS out in the U.S. later this year.

SOMNUS is the feature directorial debut of Reading, who also wrote the screenplay with Russell Owen. The story follows

the crew of an aging cargo ship on their final mission working the monotonous Earth-Mars shipping route.  Malfunctions aboard the ship force a change off course to Somnus, a remote asteroid colony.  The crew soon discovers the inhabitants of the colony have a dark past, and troubling plans for the future of mankind.

Meryl Griffiths, Marcus McMahon, Mac McDonald, and Jennifer Moylan-Taylor star.

Inspired by Douglas Trumbull’s visual effects work on films like 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, Reading made sure to use practical effects as much as possible, shooting with models and on location. Check out the teaser trailer below and see what you think of the results.
