Exclusive: Citadel featurette asks “What’s your fear?”

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

CITADEL emerged as a sleeper hit from this year’s SXSW. Based on everything we’ve seen, the Irish horror flick infuses the “evil youth” subgenre compellingly with that of a psychological thriller. A uniquely gritty urban setting and an intense lead performance by Aneurin Barnard qualifies CITADEL as a flick to keep on your radar. For those still on the fence about it, we have an exclusive featurette below to catch your paranoid fancy.

See, CITADEL isn’t just any urban horror flick– it’s a film that’s partially inspired by true events, like many of our favorite cinematic horror gems. We’re not getting into “Based Off A True Story” territory or anything, but how writer/director Ciaran Foy got the idea for the film is a scary and inspiring tale in and of itself. Check out the clip below to discover how a past assault on Foy resulted in agoraphobia similar to that of the film’s lead character and informed the making of CITADEL.

CITADEL stars the Barnard, James Cosmos, Wunmi Mosaku, Jake Wilson, and Amy Shiels. Look for it in select cities near you. While you’re at it, enjoy the synopsis, a trailer for the film we’ve also included, and the exclusive clip below.

An agoraphobic father teams up with a renegade priest to save his daughter from the clutches of a gang of twisted feral children.
