Film Movement bites into Cannibal, hitting US and Canadian theaters next year

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The last thing we heard about Manuel Martin Cuenca’s CANNIBAL came at us back in late July when we shared the trailer for the film just ahead of its screening at this years Toronto International Film Festival but today brings us some exciting news for the dark thriller as Screen Daily is reporting that North American film distributor Film Movement has picked up CANNIBAL with plans to give it a U.S. and Canadian theatrical release in 2014.

Manuel Martin Cuenca’s dark romance centers on a tailor and secret cannibal (played by Antonio de la Torre) who unexpectedly finds himself falling in love with his latest prospective victim.

Carlos is the most prestigious tailor in Granada, but he’s also a murderer in the shadows. He feels no remorse, no guilt, until Nina appears in his life. She will make him realize the true nature of his acts and, for the first time, love awakens. Carlos is evil incarnate, unaware of itself. Nina is pure innocence. And Cannibal is a demon’s love story.

The deal was negotiated on the first day of the Ventana Sur market in Buenos Aires by Film Movement’s VP of acquisitions and distribution Rebeca Conget and Vicente Casales, managing director at Film Factory.

CANNIBAL will open theatrically in the US and Canada in Q3 2014, followed by a VOD and DVD release. Check out the TIFF trailer for CANNIBAL below.
