Final Destination: Jeffrey Reddick assures new sequel is still in the works

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Nine years have gone by since the last time we got a new FINAL DESTINATION movie, and it's been nearly two years since we heard that New Line Cinema had hired genre regulars Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to write a new sequel. Earlier this year, franchise producer Craig Perry and FINAL DESTINATION 1 and 2 writer Jeffrey Reddick sat down for an interview in which they said the project was still in development… but when something takes this long to get into production, fans start to worry. So Reddick has taken to his Twitter account to assure his followers that the plan to make a new FINAL DESTINATION has not been abandoned.

In the FINAL DESTINATION movies,

a character has a premonition of a horrific and deadly event, cheats his or her own death and saves several other lives in the process, only to have Death, as a personified but unstoppable force, come for the survivors one by one.

As for the new film, Perry has said,

We're toying with having it take place in the world of first responders: EMTs, firemen, and police. These people deal with death on the front lines every day and make choices that can cause people to live or die. We rely on their good judgment, expertise, and calm demeanor. So why not put those people in the nightmare situation where every choice can bring about life and death – but now for themselves?"

Perry also hinted at one of the deaths we might see in the new film, saying

I don't think anybody will look at a revolving door in the same way again…"

I love the FINAL DESTINATION movies and it has been way too long since the last one. I really hope this new sequel will go into production very soon.
