First look at Gareth Evans’ Apostle, starring Dan Stevens & Lucy Boynton

Way back in November, we announced Dan Stevens (THE GUEST) would be starring in APOSTLE from director Gareth Evans (THE RAID). Then this past March we let you guys know the period revenge thriller had been picked up for distribution by Netflix and that Lucy Boynton (see below), Michael Sheen, Bill Millner, and Kristine Froseth had joined the cast.

Today we have your first look at the film in a very THERE WILL BE BLOOD-looking still (above).

Yes, it is only a single still from the movie but it is a very evocative still I must say. When I mentioned the look of THERE WILL BE BLOOD above let me just point out that the reference was in no way a slight against this new flick. But, come on, you knew that.

Furthermore, THERE WILL BE BLOOD was basically a horror movie without the, you know, "horror parts" and it was most definitely a "period revenge thriller", just by way of Paul Thomas Anderson. Evans, one can only hope, will take it more of the SAFE HAVEN (aka his segment from VHS 2) route.

But maybe not… maybe it will be more subdued than his previous ball-to-the-bloodsoaked-walls flicks. We will definitely see one way or the other being that Evans is a must-watch director by this point and I am f*cking deep in lust with Dan Steven— Hu r –hu –hurm. Excuse me. I mean, deep in lust with Lucy Boynton. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Anyhow, with the combined force of THE RAID, THE GUEST, and THE BLACKCOAT'S DAUGHTER involved with APOSTLE, I am 100% down for peeping this flick as soon as it hits Netflix sometime in 2018.

APOSTLE synopsis:

The year is 1905. Thomas Richardson travels to a remote island to rescue his sister after she’s kidnapped by a mysterious religious cult demanding a ransom for her safe return. It soon becomes clear that the cult will regret the day it baited this man, as he digs deeper and deeper into the secrets and lies upon which the commune is built.

APOSTLE is directed by Gareth Evans and stars Dan Stevens, Michael Sheen, Lucy Boynton, Mark Lewis Jones, Bill Milner, Kristine Froseth, and Paul Higgins

APOSTLE is set to debut on Netflix sometime in 2018.
