First look at Schwarzenegger and Stallone in The Tomb

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Movie geek testosterone is running high thanks to THE EXPENDABLES 2 opening this week. Though the film will without a doubt be the (non-superhero) action flick of this year, bullet and fisticuff junkies can rest assured their needs will be met in 2013 thanks to Mikael Hafstrom’s THE TOMB, starring EXPENDABLES icons Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Though no official release date has yet been confirmed, an official first photo from the film has finally surfaced.

It’s pretty simple, really– just two iconic action heroes sizing something (or somebody) up. Sure it would be nice to see the two waving guns around, jumping away from an explosion, or beating the living sh*t out of each other. But there’s something so simple and effective about a pair of stone cold badasses like Sly and Arnold double teaming a stare down.

That’s what action icons are all about, in my opinion. Well, that and killing henchman in creative ways– which the picture is hopefully building toward in its own subtle way. THE TOMB also stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Sam Neill, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Jim Caviezel and Vinnie Jones. Enjoy the synopsis and action icons below.

The film follows Ray Breslin (Stallone), the world’s foremost authority on structural security. He’s analyzed nearly every high security prison. After being framed by persons unknown, all of Breslin’s ingenuity and expertise are about to be put to work in the most challenging test he’s ever faced: escaping from a high-tech prison facility that’s design is based on his own protocols.

Schwarzenegger plays Emil Rottmayer,a complex inmate with multiple shades of gray. He’s the guy who fights to keep the prisoners from losing their humanity in their darkest hour as they struggle together to stay alive.
