Franck Khalfoun’s Amityville: The Awakening to undergo reshoots?

A few weeks ago we learned that Dimension Films had decided to delay Franck Khalfoun's AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING, removing the film from its January 2 2015 release date. This news really bummed me out as the trailer did a solid job of selling me on checking this one out. At the time, no reasons were given for delaying the release of the film, but some new information has come to light that gives us hope that AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING could actually be worth the wait.

Bloody Disgusting has revealed one of the potential reasons behind the delay, with a source telling them that the studio held two separate screenings for AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. The main issue audiences had with the film was with the ending, resulting in the Weinstein execs ordering re-shoots. In additional to some additional photography, the effects work was falling behind. The delay gives more time for post work, such as focusing on the VFX.

With reshoots deemed necessary the production will have to wait on the availability of star Cameron Monaghan, who is in the middle of shooting the new season of “Shameless".

Bloody Disgusting also shares that the plan is to finish everything after the November holiday and aim for a mid/late summer 2015 release.

“Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.”

AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bella Thorne, McKenna Grace, Cameron Monaghan, Taylor Spreitler, Thomas Mann and Jennifer Morrison.
