Freeform renews Siren for season 2

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

To be honest, I'll not sure if we should be covering Freeform's series SIREN here on AITH. But it's kind of a slow news days so what the hell, right? That said, you can imagine how disappointed I was when I found out the series wasn't based on that killer entry in the original VHS ("I like you.") or it's feature spin-off.

No, this SIREN is about a killer mermaid or something like that and today we have word that the series has been renewed for a second season by Freeform. Sure, cancel THE EXORCIST. Cancel ASH VS EVIL DEAD. Cancel them all. But thank the lord this teen-horror mermaid series is still free to swim the ocean blue. I'm not bitter, I swear.

SIREN has actually been a ratings success for Freeform, debuting as the No. 1 new cable drama with young women 18-34 and 12-34. So I guess it makes sense then that Freeform has ordered a 16-episode Season 2, up from 10 episodes this season.

Co-created by Eric Wald and Dean White SIREN is:

An epic tale about the coastal town of Bristol Cove, known for its legend of once being home to mermaids. The arrival of a mysterious girl, Ryn (Eline Powell), wreaks havoc on the small fishing town as she proves the folklore true. Using their resources, marine biologists Ben (Alex Roe) and Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola) must work together to find out who and what drove this primal hunter of the deep sea to land and if there are more like her. Xander (Ian Verdun) is a deep-sea fisherman looking to uncover the truth and Helen (Rena Owen), the town eccentric, knows more than she lets on.

Wald and White executive produce, along with showrunner and executive producer Emily Whitesell. Brad Luff, Nate Hopper, and RD Robb are also executive producers. Check out the poster and trailer for season one below.
