Gael Garcia Bernal goes on a trippy, creepy adventure in The Loneliest Planet

It remains to be seen if THE LONELIEST PLANET is a film worthy of coverage here on Arrow in the Head, as it looks like it might be more of a psychological relationship drama than thriller/suspense flick. However, we go off the grid once in a while when a film looks too flat-out intriguing and mysterious to avoid, and this PLANET doesn't want to be avoided.

Watch the trailer below to see what I mean. Just something off-kilter about it, maybe even a little unnerving. Could be a case of a trailer cleverly cut to make us think we're in for something insidious when it's simply misdirection, but for now, I'm intrigued.

Here's the enigmatic synopsis:

Alex (Gael Garcia Bernal) and Nica (Hani Furstenberg) are young, in love and engaged to be married. The summer before their wedding, they are backpacking in the Caucasus Mountains in Georgia. The couple hire a local guide to lead them on a camping trek, and the three set off into a stunning wilderness, a landscape that is both overwhelmingly open and frighteningly closed. Walking for hours, they trade anecdotes, play games to pass the time of moving through space. And then, a momentary misstep, a gesture that takes only two or three seconds, a gesture that's over almost as soon as it begins. But once it is done, it can't be undone. Once it is done, it threatens to undo everything the couple believed about each other and about themselves.

THE LONELIEST PLANET comes out on OCTOBER 26th. Hmm, something of a spooky release date, that...
