Gareth Edwards Godzilla gets production start date, who’s the DP?

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

So cinephiles, can you identify the work of one Seamus McGarvey?

Don’t fret if not, I certainly couldn’t. But the dude’s been building a solid resume over the last 15 years as a cinematographer, having worked with Stephen Frears, Stephen Daldry, Joe Wright, Oliver Stone and most recently, Joss Whedon on THE AVENGERS. Dude’s certainly on the uptick!

Anyway, we’ve learned today via Collider that McGarvey has been set to shoot GODZILLA for Gareth Edwards, WB and Legendary. Not only that, Seamus let it slip that production on the mega-spectacle is set to commence in March:

“We start in March. March ‘til June, I think.”

No plot details were given, as you might imagine, but McGarvey did add this regarding the test footage screened at Comic Con this past summer:

“We still haven’t chosen the direction we’re going visually. I’m sort of testing next week, in fact, for that stuff.”

So there it is, still tinkering, but at least we know who’s shooting the film and when production is slated. McGarvey seems solid, but let’s hope Edwards isn’t a one trick pony!

GODZILLA is due May 16, 2014.
