Last Updated on August 2, 2021

A few days ago we shared the news that production had begun on NBC’s upcoming “Constantine”, based on the popular “Hellblazer” comics, and today we have our first look at Matt Ryan as John Constantine. I gotta say, I think he’s pulling the look off quite nicely!

These first photos from the set turned up at Slates For Sarah, a special site dedicated to the memory of Sarah Elizabeth Jones, who tragically lost her life last month while working as a camera assistant on the Greg Allman biopic MIDNIGHT RIDER. Ryan seems to be a good choice for “Constantine” as he’s certainly got the look down pat, right down to the loose-hanging tie. I’m diggin’ it!

“Constantine” will also feature Lucy Griffiths as Liv, Harold Perrineau as the angel Manny and Charles Halford as Constantine’s friend Chas. Written by David S. Goyer (BATMAN BEGINS, MAN OF STEEL) and Daniel Cerone (“The Mentalist”), the pilot for “Constantine” which will be directed by THE DESCENT and “Game of Thrones” director Neil Marshall.

The character of John Constantine first appeared in Alan Moore’s “The Saga of the Swamp Thing”, which was co-created by Steve Bissette and Jamie Delano. The long-running comic was adapted into the 2005 feature film CONSTANTINE starring Keanu Reeves and is rumored to be featured in the JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK feature Warner Bros. has in the works with Guillermo del Toro.

Based on the Hellblazer graphic novels, the Constantine series centers on master of the occult John Constantine, who is struggling with his faith as he is haunted by the sins of his past but is suddenly thrust into the roleof defending humanity from the gathering forces of darkness.
