Giant shark The Meg has a lot of dinner options in new image

The Meg Jason Statham

The folks over at Entertainment Weekly have gotten their hands on an incredible new image from the upcoming shark thriller THE MEG, which is based on author Steve Alten's 1997 novel Meg.

The Meg of the title is a Megalodon, a prehistoric shark that grew up to massive sizes - and the size of the shark featured in this film is teased in the picture below, which shows the creature swimming just under the surface of the ocean, passing beneath a lot of people... It's a pretty creepy sight, especially when you take into account that any one of those people could become a hot lunch at any moment.

Directed by Jon Turteltaub from a screenplay by Dean Georgaris and James Vanderbilt, THE MEG stars Jason Statham as a

Navy deep-sea diver whose military career ended in disgrace after his team encountered a living Megalodon, a prehistoric ancestor of the shark believed to reach up to 60 feet in length. With his team destroyed by the beast, he soon is offered a chance at redemption when an international underwater observation program led by Chinese scientists encounters the same beast after a volcanic eruption released it from an underwater trench into open water.

Also in the cast are Winston Chao, Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Page Kennedy, Jessica McNamee, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Robert Taylor, Cliff Curtis, Shuya Sophia Cai, and Masi Oka.

THE MEG is scheduled to reach theatres on August 10th. I like the fact that shark thrillers have gotten big screen releases for three years in a row now. In 2016 we had THE SHALLOWS and in 2017 there was 47 METERS DOWN. I watched those, and I will be watching THE MEG.
