Godzilla producer talks new grounded, realistic take on the big fellow

GODZILLA is stomping our way in 2014, which seems too damn far away for my liking but what can you do other than wait it out? We’ve recently caught a glimpse at the trailer-in-making, so thankfully we know that isn’t too far off, and it would appear that we should start hearing more and more about the reboot of the classic monster real soon.

Speaking with Collider, producer Dan Lin dished a bit about how far along pre-production is, and how director Gareth Edwards is impressively crafting his vision of the epic.

We’re planning to film in March. We are in deep pre-production. Gareth [Edwards] has really mapped out his vision for the movie, you saw the teaser, but Gareth thanks to Thomas Tull’s help he took over a whole stage on the Warner Brothers lot and not only showed the teaser you saw, he had some models built of Godzilla, he had art decorated all over the soundstage, he had pre-vis of some of the big action sequences in the movie. So we’re in deep pre-production and Gareth’s vision of the movie is really exciting it’s a true re-boot of Godzilla. And you saw from the Comic-Con footage it is a grounded, realistic version of Godzilla. What would happen if Godzilla came into our world today?”

What would happen is we’d all go, “Holy crap, this is just like that movie Godzilla!” and then bomb the everlovin’ shite out of the beast.

Lin also reveals that they’ll likely shoot in Vancouver, but that’s not set in stone.

We’ll see what happens when the giant lizard stalks the world again in MAY of 2014.
