Gran Torino scribe has been hired to work on the RoboCop screenplay for MGM

Aside from the people involved, does anyone out there actually want a ROBOCOP reboot? I sure as hell don’t, the film by Paul Verhoeven’s classic film is perfect! Sure it suffers from being a little 80’s but it is one of the balliest films to come out from that era, and it is still extremely watchable. It is a product of its times, and that makes it endearing, we can’t forget the past. Its satire is spot on, and it all just blends together so well. This is something you really can’t recreate no matter how hard you try.

Why the rant? Well we have a new writer on board for this reboot with GRAN TORINO scribe Nick Schenk getting hired by MGM to work on the script. Currently Jose Padilha is attached to direct. The studio wants to begin this project in the summer, however we have no one cast. I can’t even begin to try and list candidates for the roles because everyone filled them perfectly. I keep hoping this will just fade out but since Schenk has been hired it doesn’t seem likely.

Original synopsis: Detroit – in the future – is crime ridden, and run by a massive company. The company have developed a huge crime fighting robot, which unfortunately develops a rather dangerous glitch. The company sees a way to get back in favour with the public when a cop called Alex Murphy is killed by a street gang. Murphys body is reconstructed within a steel shell and named Robocop. The Robocop is very successful against criminals, and becomes a target of supervillian Boddicker.
